Biography

San Diego-based artist Christopher Konecki is a self-taught visionary whose dynamic practice spans large-scale aerosol murals, intricate paintings, and miniature sculptures. Known for his constant experimentation, Konecki's work delves into social consciousness with a blend of irreverence and profound insight, tackling themes that are both serious and absurd. His innovative use of found and repurposed objects challenges conventional notions of function and beauty, while his art often juxtaposes elements of nature with stark urban landscapes. This interplay symbolizes the ongoing struggle for harmonious coexistence between these powerful forces.

Konecki's impressive portfolio includes exhibitions at notable galleries across the United States, such as Context Miami, Scope Art Basel, Oceanside Museum of Art, Moniker Art Fair, Thinkspace, and 111 Minna Gallery. His international presence is equally significant, with mural projects in New Zealand, Canada, and Mexico. Among his many achievements, Konecki completed the largest mural in San Diego in 2015, a 9,500-square-foot masterpiece on the 7-story parking structure at 707 Broadway. His other prominent murals can be seen at Snapdragon Stadium, POW!WOW! Hawaii, Skateworld San Diego, and the Ocean Beach Hotel.

Konecki’s installation work is featured in a variety of prominent venues, including Oxford Social Club at the Pendry Hotel San Diego, Alexandria Real Estate, The Container Yard DTLA, Waypoint Public Restaurants, Park and Rec, Form15, and the Arts Center of San Diego. His multifaceted approach to art and dedication to community engagement continue to make a significant impact in both the local and global art landscapes.

In addition to his creative work, Konecki plays a pivotal role in San Diego's art scene through his curation of major events such as Warehouse 1425 and SILO in Makers Quarter, which lead to the creation of nearly 100 murals. As a co-founder of Cohort Collective, Konecki has been instrumental in organizing live art events and exhibitions. His collaboration with non-profits like the Pangeaseed Foundation and Surfrider Foundation through the Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans San Diego project underscores his commitment to environmental advocacy, resulting in over 20 large-scale public artworks addressing critical ecological issues.
